Chapter Seven: Staffing The Agency

.

In the last chapter, we created a fictional agency we called Social Services Inc. – SSI. Focus now on staffing SSI’s internal eco system. In Chapter Four, we discussed Guiding Principles and Priorities we adopt to successfully manage SSI’s internal eco system. Let me simply highlight two points here from that discussion. First, within SSI’s internal eco system, we maintain a rational, flexible Organizational Structure and internal environment within which SSI staff members function with a minimum of administrative or bureaucratic control or interference. Second, we maximize Personal Control for each staff member over his (or her) activities and experience within SSI’s internal eco system. SSI Managers do not manage people. They manage SSI’s internal eco system or aspects of its eco system. SSI staff function as self-managing organisms within the internal eco system. They function successfully with a minimum of traditional management.
